Easton Registrars Outline Security Measures Ahead Of Tuesday’s Election Recount

Easton registrars said all ballots are secured and new tabulators will be used for Tuesday's recount at Samuel Staples.

EASTON, CT — Easton election officials said Monday that all ballots and equipment for Tuesday’s recount are secure and the process will be carried out using newly programmed and tested tabulators.

The recount is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the cafetorium at Samuel Staples Elementary School, 515 Morehouse Road, according to the Easton Registrars of Voters.

Registrars Dori Wollen and David Smith said ballots from the Nov. 4 municipal election — which included three races deemed too close to call — were secured in a fireproof cabinet on election night.

Officials said three unused tabulators will be used in the recount: one for in-person poll ballots, one for early voting ballots, and one for same-day registration and absentee ballots. For the latter, registrars said they obtained permission from attorneys in the Secretary of the State’s Office to use the same tabulators with different flash drives.

“All precautionary measures have been taken, and we expect a seamless process,” Wollen and Smith said in a joint statement.
