Fishermen Lead Police on a Chase at Easton Reservoir

A report of two men taking photos at Easton Reservoir on South Park Avenue at 3:10 p.m. on May 14 led officers to a jeep with New York plates parked on nearby Lakeview Drive, then on a foot chase after four trespassers who were camping, according to police.

Easton Police Chief James Candee said police found two men taking photos and two of their friends, who were fishing. They were camping with a cooler full of beer, he added.

Easton Reservoir has "No Trespassing" signs posted throughout the property.

Candee said the campers ignored police officers who asked them to come out of the woods and instead ran away.

Police officers chased them and called Aquarion Water Co. Security for assistance.

"We were concerned that they would get hurt," Candee said of the young men running through the wooded property.

Candee said the men eventually walked out of the woods on their own and apologized to the officers for running away, telling them they got scared.

The young men were each issued a $92 fine for trespassing.

Three were from New York - two 22-year-olds and one 21 - and the other was a 22-year-old from Branford.
