That’s a mighty big cat
On Monday, Jan. 9 at 6:55 a.m., officers responded to a report that a motor vehicle had hit a 40-pound bobcat on Black Rock Turnpike. The bobcat, severely injured, was put down by officers. Police Chief Douglas Fuchs said bobcats are not uncommon to the area.
Burglary

On Friday, Jan. 6 at 2:31 p.m., police responded to a report of a burglary on Putnam Park Road. According to police, a homeowner came home to find forced entry into their home. Jewelry and electronics were stolen from the residence. The case remains under investigation.

On Sunday, Jan. 8 at 2:22 a.m., Vladimir Silva, 34, of Bridgeport was stopped on Black Rock Turnpike for speeding in excess of 60 miles per hour. Officers stopped him and discovered he was driving without a license, had no insurance and the license plates on his vehicle belonged to another vehicle. He was taken back to the police department and was released on a promise to appear at a court date later this month.
On Monday, Jan. 9 at 8:08 a.m., officers stopped a car on Redding Road because it was unregistered. Anthony Cassio, 32, of Danbury was found to be operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. He was released on the scene and given a court date of Jan. 24.
Driver extricated from vehicle
On Saturday, Jan. 7 at 9:16 p.m., a vehicle driving south on Umpawaug Road struck a guardrail and vaulted back across the center before coming to rest. The fire department had to extricate the drive from the vehicle. The driver was taken to Danbury Hospital where he was treated for non life-threatening injuries. The case remains under investigation.
Warrant arrest
Hamden Police notified the that they had picked up Lindsey Beckwith, 20, of Clinton for an unrelated arrest on Friday, Jan. 6 at 2:28 a.m. Beckwith was wanted by Redding Police for her alleged involvement in a 2007 case in which a group of individuals all of whom the department arrested were cashing fraudulent Town of Redding checks. Beckwith failed to appear in court to answer that charge. She was held by Hamden Police for arraignment there.
Various thefts
On Tuesday, Jan. 3, it was reported that Christmas tree lights were stolen from a residence on Huckleberry Road.
On Wednesday, Jan. 4, it was reported that copper downspouts were stolen from the Mark Twain Library.
On Monday, Jan. 9, it was reported that more than $250 of cash was stolen from a locked area in the athletic department at Joel Barlow High School. The case remains under investigation.
On Thursday, Jan. 5, it was reported an abandoned U-Haul trailer was found on private property on Newtown Turnpike. The trailer was stolen out of Hartford. The case remains under investigation.
