Georgetown Day Returns Sunday, June 10

The annual street festival is sponsored by Georgetown Village Restoration, Inc.

—the popular street festival held in ’s historic downtown area—returns on Sunday, June 10.

The annual event features live music, artisans and vendors selling all sorts of wares from art to clothing to jewelry and everything in between, tons of food, a chili cook-off, a beer tent, a hot dog eating competition, a dunking booth and various kiosks of local businesses—something for everyone.

Susan Jackson, of the Georgetown Village Restoration Initiative, recently issued a press release saying the festival is seeking exhibitors, chili chefs, musicians, performers and volunteers.

“Because of the renowned success of the past festivals, future festivals will continue to be exciting days that will attract many people from all around the area,” she said.

Festival-goers who haven’t visited Georgetown since last summer are in for a treat. The area’s been refurbished with , which including light fixtures, sidewalks, crosswalks and more—completely pedestrian-friendly.

The Wilton Family Y and Wilton Chamber of Commerce sponsor the Georgetown Gallop, a 5K race that takes place before the festival officially begins at noon.

Though there are some vacancies in Georgetown— and both closed this year, and there are a handful of empty office and retail spaces there—both and Janeen Leppert, director of the Wilton Chamber of Commerce, said they’re confident that as the economy improves, coupled with the recently upgrades in the area, businesses will flock to the area in the near future.

”While the development of the wire mill for housing and retail is still in the works, the Georgetown Day Festival is coming up on Sunday, June 10 — which always draws thousands of people to the area,” Leppert said. “The Chamber supports all of these initiatives, especially with our 5k road race on Georgetown Day and by keeping in touch with all of our Chamber members who are located in Georgetown.”
