Gilbert Opposes Council of Governments
The following is a letter to the editor sent by Stephan Grozinger.
To the Editor:
Regional government is already here. The only decision left to Westonites is whether they will continue to be represented by the Board of Selectmen and Planning and Zoning on the regional level (an “RPA”) or if only the First Selectman will have a vote (a “COG”). As multiple-member boards, the Board of Selectmen and P&Z can exercise their votes in an RPA only after public meetings here in Weston, while the First Selectman can vote in a COG without input from anyone. Right now, government at the regional level does not have a lot of authority and is not a significant danger. But Hartford wants to expand the regions and give regional government taxation authority. If you have heard otherwise, follow this link to a report by the State’s Office of Policy Management and don’t miss the connection to regional government at the end of page 22.
The taskforce promoting COG identified regional emergency dispatch as its only specific goal. Please ask your Weston firefighters, EMTs and police officers what effect that will have on public safety.

Dan Gilbert opposes COG and has done so consistently for years. Please vote for Dan.
