Google Unveils Internet and TV Service

Google Fiber is said to offer Internet connection speeds 100x faster than what most have today.

Yesterday Google unveiled its high speed Internet service which is said to offer connections 100x faster than what most consumers have today, The Huffington Post reports

Google Fiber—which doubles as a televsion service provider—will only initially be available in Kansas City, Mo. and Kansas City, Kan., which beat out 1,100 other cities in a competition as to see where Google would first provide the service.

Google said customers who subscribe to the ultra-high speed web connections — which measure a gigabit per second — will no longer need to wait for videos to buffer or websites to load. They will be able to share large files instantaneously and take advantage of advancements in online education and health care that will require the fastest Internet speeds.

Google says its high-speed Internet service will cost residents $70 a month or $120 a month for a broadband and TV package, which comes with a that is used as a TV remote. Residents will also have the choice to receive basic broadband service for free after paying $300 for construction costs.

The company said that some customers will receive Google Fiber later this fall and the rest of the city will be wired by the end of 2013. 

Google has remained silent on its plans moving forward as to when and if the service would be available in other locations.
