Herrmann, Ketcham Endorse Shaban for 135th District

State Rep. John Shaban (R-135th) recently received endorsements from two of the area's First Selectmen, who are also both Republicans. 

Easton First Selectman Tom Herrmann lauded Shaban's leadership.

“John sponsored 56 bills relevant to the unique and often under represented interests of rural Fairfield County, 22 of which passed including the crucial cell tower bill," Herrmann said. "John is a man of competence, dedication, commitment and drive. We need to keep him in Hartford representing our interests.”  

Redding First Selectman Natalie Ketcham echoed Herrmann's sentiments. 

“John’s responsiveness and his commitment to the people he serves have been exemplary," she said. "I fully support his reelection.”

Shaban also received the endorsement of Easton resident Kathy Gombos, a Democrat, who is principal of a school in Bethel, as well as Democrat Keith Gallagher, a Redding resident who is a former teacher.

“As a life-long democrat, parent, educator and 10-year Easton resident, I once again support his reelection,” Gombos said, adding that Shaban worked with her to learn about last year’s education bill. “He sought counsel of local educators when considering the education reform bill, rather than acting on assumptions.”

According to a press release, Shaban was also endorsed by Dr. Candice Benyei, owner of Whimsy Brook Farm in Redding and president of the Fairfield County Farm Bureau, and Leeland Gray of Grey Friesian Farms in Easton.  

Benyei said Shaban is “a level-headed advocate for open-space and environmental preservation, two things dear to the heart of Reddingites,” according to the release. 

Shaban was proud of the endorsements.

“I proud to receive the support of these community leaders,” Shaban said. “I look forward to working with them next session to keep us moving in the right direction.”

Democrat Leon Karvelis is seeking to unseat Shaban in November.
