Good afternoon,

This week, I attended graduation ceremonies for Helen Keller Middle School and Joel Barlow High School. These are wonderful events that showcase our wonderful young people, our families, and the amazing administrators and staff who teach them. Congratulations and thank you! I hope all enjoy their summers, and to our graduates who are moving on after high school, the best of luck.

On Monday, June 9th, we swore in our new Police Chief, Foti Koskinas. He officially begins on June 23rd, but has been actively working on the transition. In the same breath, we will be saying goodbye to Richard Doyle, our current chief. More about that next week.

Last week, I talked about the housing bill, which was approved by the House and Senate. I told you that I was not in favor of the bill, and both of my selectmen colleagues and I have written to Governor Lamont suggesting he veto the bill. That letter is available on the town website, here.

I have also talked about the sale of the Aquarion Water Company. There will be a public hearing on Wednesday, June 25th, at 12:30 pm, which will be held on ZOOM. I will publish the link when it is available.

The Planning and Zoning Commission will meet on Tuesday, June 17th, and continue their consideration of a special permit for the Strong on Center studio on Center Road.

As a reminder, the Town Hall and the Library will be closed on Thursday, June 19th, in observance of Juneteenth.

Recent rain has changed the state’s schedule for work on Sport Hill Rd. Milling work by the state DOT on Sport Hill Road between Old Oak and Westport Road will now begin on Monday, June 23rd. The work will be done at night from 7:00 pm to 5:00 am for approximately five days. Paving will follow on Tuesday, July 1st, again dependent on the weather.

It has been four years since the town joined the Aspetuck Health District. The Board of Selectmen has decided to form a committee to evaluate the relationship.
