As a longtime volunteer in Easton — serving on the Board of Education, on the board of a local nonprofit, and as a room parent for our schools — I give my time because I care deeply about our town. I’m not writing this as a Democrat or a Republican, but as someone who believes in community service, civility, and respect for others who step up to serve.
That’s why I was sickened to watch a video of the Republican candidate for First Selectman at a public meeting disrespecting volunteers, calling them failures, and questioning their intelligence and integrity. These are people who, like me and many of our neighbors, give their time freely to make Easton a better place. One of the people he insulted is even running on the same ticket as he is.
This isn’t leadership. It’s bullying. And it has no place in Easton.

Leadership means bringing people together, listening with respect, and working toward solutions — even when we disagree. Leadership means modeling the values we want our children to see: integrity, compassion, and responsibility.
Easton deserves a leader who builds up our volunteers and brings our community together, not one who tears people down in public. Anyone can raise their voice. True leaders raise the bar.
