Letter: 'In Support Of Chris Parkin For Redding Board of Finance'

I wholeheartedly support Chris Parkin to serve on the Board of Finance for Redding. Since 2017, he has distinguished himself as a leader and a visionary on the Board of Education. As a parent of school-age children, while working diligently to maintain the quality Redding public education for which our community is proud, he has shown a commitment to practicality and to fiscal restraint. Chris Parkin has proven that he can deliver solutions that reflect our interests and our values and can do so responsibly to deliver a healthy return on our investment.

Democratic voters can do no better than to elect Chris Parkin to the Board of Finance, where he will apply his talents and experience to additional needed areas of our community while standing as a voice for Redding families.

It is crucial, however, that Redding Democrats understand how our ballot works this year to elect Chris Parkin to this position. Although voters may choose two candidates on the line for Board of Finance, because two Democrats are competing for only one available slot for Democrats (the Republican candidate is guaranteed a position), if we cast a vote for both Chris and the other Democratic candidate, the votes effectively will not count toward their total.

Democrats should vote only once on the line for Board of Finance. That vote should be for Chris Parkin.
