Long Drought Ends For Weston Football
The Trojans won their first-ever state football title by defeating Killingly in the Class M finals.

NEW BRITAIN, CT — With a steady rainfall at Veterans Stadium in New Britain, Weston High School reigns victorious over Killingly High School, by a score of 27 to 6 securing their place as the 2019 Class M State Champions. Following a successful 11-1 season in the SWC, the Trojans fought past ATI in the quarterfinal round, and #1 seeded Rockville in the semi final round to earn a spot in the championship. The Trojans have secured their first CIAC Football Championship in school history.
The game started with a bang as the first play resulted in a 50 yard touchdown pass from James Goetz to John Cassol for Weston. Killingly would respond later in the quarter on a run from Jacob Nurse, having their extra point blocked. 7-6 in favor of Weston is how the first quarter would end. Weston followed suit to start the 2nd quarter, scoring on a short run by Tyler Bower within the first minute to push the score to 13-6, having their extra point attempt blocked as well. With 2 minutes remaining in the half, Bower rushed once again for a 2 yard touchdown, with the extra point converted to make the score 20-6. The half would end the same way, with Weston leading 20-6 heading into the half, in dominant fashion.
Weston controlled possession for much of the 3rd quarter, with Tyler Bower adding another 6 points with a 2 yard rushing touchdown with 3 minutes remaining, for the 3rd time of the day. The score would remain, with Killingly in striking distance to start the 4th quarter. After threatening, Killingly was held out of the end zone, turning the ball over on downs. Weston would remain in possession for much of the 4th quarter, turning the ball over at the 2 minute mark, with time expiring soon after.
