The Easton Memorial Day Parade is scheduled for Monday, May 26th. The Parade will begin at the Easton Fire Station at 9:30 am and end at the Town Hall. Following the parade, there will be a ceremony honoring those who gave their lives defending America and our freedoms. Isabel Mariani will sing the National Anthem and God Bless America, and the opening invocation and closing benediction will be provided by local church leaders. After the ceremony, short remembrances will be held at the Easton Cemeteries. All are welcome. For more information, please contact Town Hall or Don Rogerson, Post Commander, at 203-209-1402. (On May 24th, the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and anyone who wishes to volunteer will be placing flags on graves starting at 9:30 am at Union Cemetery, then Aspetuck Cemetery.) The parade is a favorite community event where we all get together and display our sense of community. It is a big event for our young people, and most of all, honors those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Hope to see you there.
We are also very excited to announce the SPORT HILL RACES – Hill Climb Demonstration & Car Show on Saturday, May 24, from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm. The event includes a car show at the library parking lot, including early brass cars and other pre-war cars in celebration of the Sport Hill Climb races. See: https://eastoncourier.news/?s=sport+hill+races, and https://eastoncourier.news/2024/11/08/uphill-battle-the-sport-hill-races/. This should be a wonderful event, with more details to come. The Staples Academy Foundation will host a preview event for the upcoming Sport Hill Races demonstration at the Old Staples Academy building at 336 Center Road on Saturday, May 17th, between noon and 3:00 pm. It will showcase a limited number of Brass Era motorcars, including a beautiful, fully restored 1914 Mercer 450 race car. Attendees can enjoy some barbeque, with libations available from the Two Roads Brewing Company. Entry to this event is free to the public, but parking is extremely limited, so get there early!

National Police Week (observed May 11 – May 17) offers honor, remembrance, and peer support, while allowing law enforcement, survivors, and citizens to gather and pay homage to those who gave their lives in the line of duty. It includes the National Peace Officers Memorial Service and other events throughout the week that honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. National EMS Week (observed May 18 - May 24) recognizes and thanks emergency medical services personnel for their vital contributions to communities. The week-long event provides an opportunity to acknowledge the dedicated work of paramedics, EMTs, and other EMS professionals who provide crucial pre-hospital care. We are excited to announce that on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 9:00 AM in the ambulance bays of Bridgeport Hospital, EMS Week awards will be presented. EMT's Josh Meszaros and Kevin Shevlin will be honored for their direct intervention in saving a witnessed cardiac arrest at the Easton Senior Center last month. All of our emergency service workers do a phenomenal job for our community, and we honor them.
