Sandy loved animals and pointed out that her surname, Lopez, is Spanish for "son of wolves," and another family name, Macpherson, has the motto "Touch Not a Cat But A Glove" making the family's commitment to animals a foregone conclusion. She was particularly concerned for those animals who were, perhaps, "unlovable" and she adopted a few throughout the years.

Sandy lived the last 10+ years in Easton, most of that time devotedly caring for her Mother, Sandra M Lopez, (Editor, CT Post) who recently died from complications of Parkinson's. Her father, Bruce M Lopez, and her beloved uncle, artist Beverly Lopez, predeceased her. She leaves behind a sister, Laurie Lopez, a niece, Rebecca C Souchuns and a brother-in-law, John Souchuns, all of Harwinton, CT and a sister-in-law Mary Budrawich of Stratford, CT, as well as a number of cousins who live throughout the U.S.
