Obituary: Catherine Lucia (née Catherine Anne Caputo), 63, Of Redding

Catherine spent over 20 years in private practice as a shiatsu practitioner and instructor of traditional Chinese medical theory.

REDDING, CT — Catherine Lucia (née Catherine Anne Caputo), 63 of Redding, passed away peacefully on Sept. 6, 2023, at Danbury Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born March 8, 1960, in Stamford, and was the eldest of four children of Rosemarie (Lucia) and Frank Caputo.

Catherine grew up in Norwalk, where she attended public schools. She enjoyed the beach, spending time with her large extended family, and playing outside on Kettle Road with her siblings and neighborhood friends.

Catherine began her work life with a 12-year stint in the electronics industry, then spent over 20 years in private practice as a shiatsu practitioner and instructor of traditional Chinese medical theory. Upon retiring from her practice, she completed her BA in art history from Columbia University, graduating magna cum laude. She then worked as a grant/marketing writer and director of the scholarship program for a non-profit supporting education for underserved populations in Fairfield County. At the time of her passing, she was working as a freelance copy editor and writer under the name Untangled Alphabet. She was a member of the Handweavers’ Guild of CT and the editor of their bimonthly newsletter, The Weavers’ Knot.

Catherine was a lifelong learner and a woman of many talents including dog training, massage therapy, pottery making, and most recently weaving. She loved gardening, writing, reading, and the Yankees. She and her husband Christopher enjoyed numerous travel adventures and were kindred spirits. Their marriage and life together were that of a true love story.

Catherine will be fondly remembered and never forgotten by numerous friends and family for her strength, courage and bravery, passion for art, music, fine food and wine, love of reading, flare for style, compassion, and generosity that she showed to her friends and family. Catherine lived life to the fullest, knowing that each day on this earth was a blessing.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by the love of her life and husband of 16 years, Christopher Durante. She is survived by her aunt (and namesake) Catherine L. Gredoni of New Canaan, her three siblings and their spouses, Lisa Caputo Sacco (Mark) of Cary, NC, Christopher Caputo (Karen) of Hebron, CT, and Marc D. Caputo (Elke) of Suwanee, GA, her cherished mentee Alyssa Joyner of Danbury, CT as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to express deep gratitude to her numerous caregivers as well as the doctors and nurses at Smilow Cancer Center and Danbury Hospital. Burial services will be private. A celebration of life will be planned at a future date. Please consider a donation in Catherine’s name to the Norwalk Community College Foundation or to an organization of your choice.
