Johanne Hobbs Hedberg, age 103, of Milford and formerly of Weston, beloved wife of the late Lowell Hedberg, entered into peaceful rest on September 8, 2025. Johanne was born on February 22, 1922, in Carmel, Indiana, she was the daughter of Donald and Edith Applegate Hobbs. She graduated from Carmel High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a minor in Chemistry from Purdue University. At Purdue, she was a founding member of the water ballet team and a sister of Alpha Chi Omega. It was there she met her future husband, Lowell, a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity.
Johanne’s first position after graduation was as a metals analyst for the Norden bomb site. Following World War II, she and Lowell settled in Iowa and Illinois, where they built their first home and raised their three children: David, Hollis, and Candace. They were later blessed with two grandchildren, Schuyler and Shea DeBarger.
Upon retirement, Johanne and Lowell moved to Weston, Connecticut, where family life remained central. She often said she enjoyed growing older because her family surrounded her with love and care.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. A devoted member of Norfield Congregational Church in Weston, she participated in Bible study, served on the Board of Fellowship and Board of Deacons, and was active as a Prayer Warrior. At her former church in La Grange, Illinois, she was the second woman ever elected to the Church Council.
Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Service on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Norfield Congregational Church, 64 Norfield Road, Weston, CT 06883.
