Obituary: Rose Marie Ross, Longtime Weston Public Schools Teacher
After her retirement, Rose continued her work in Weston, serving in many capacities.

WESTON, CT — Rose Marie Ross, a daughter of the late Frank Ross and Mary Stavola Ross, passed on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023 after a long illness.
Rose was born in Danbury, and attended St. Joseph’s School on Main Street. She later graduated from Laurelton Hall in Milford, received a bachelor's degree from St. Joseph's College and her master's degree from Western Connecticut State University. She credits the Sisters of Mercy with the formation of her spiritual development.

For many years, Rose was a math teacher in the Weston Public Schools. Her years of teaching were very rewarding. She was dedicated to her students and often talked about their later accomplishments. After her retirement, she continued her work in Weston, serving in many capacities. Rose was a member of the Southern Fairfield County Retired Teachers Association and the Association of Connecticut Teachers.
In addition, Rose volunteered at Pope John Paul II Health Care Center, where she served as Eucharistic Minister and Lector. She was also an associate member of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth and volunteered at their retirement home in Monroe.

Rose was an adventurous traveler trekking from the Great Barrier Reef in Australia to the Great Wall of China and on safari in South Africa, keeping detailed scrapbooks along the way to share with family and friends.
Aside from her loving and devoted parents, Rose was predeceased by her brothers Joseph, Michael and John; her sisters Florence, Rita (Finaldi) and Cecelia (Columbatto); her sister-in-law Christine Ross; her niece, Cathleen (Ross) Diaz; her nephews, Edmund Finaldi and Richard Finaldi; and her beloved Lili.
Survivors include Rose's brother, Frank; sister-in-law, BettyJane Ross; and her wonderful nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She loved them dearly and shared many memorable family get-togethers. She was affectionately called "Aunt Ro."
Rose had many friends, co-workers and neighbors she remained close with, and caregivers to whom her family cannot express their gratitude enough.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Church, Danbury, with the Rev. David Franklin, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Danbury.
At Rose’s request, there will be no calling hours.
Contributions in her memory may be made to St. Joseph’s Church, Danbury or St. Jude’s Children's Hospital.
