Good afternoon,

Find out what's happening in Weston-Redding-Eastonfor free with the latest updates from Patch.

There is a chance for a severe storm on Sunday into Monday with steady rain and wind gusts up to 50 mph. I realize many of you are new to town. Well water, generators, and septic systems may be new to many of you. Please remember:

  • If you have a well, fill your bathtubs with water before the storm. Your well will not work if the power goes out. Gas up your cars and generators now.
  • Do not go out and drive around during or after the storm if there is major damage. Stay away from downed wires. Obey “Road Closed” signs.
  • Don't run generators in homes or garages. Do not refuel a generator while it is running, but check it for fuel and oil before the storm.
  • Charge cell phones and chargers or batteries now, as well as flashlights.
  • For further preparedness information, please visit our website here and click on the Emergency Management/Storm Information tab.

While we do not know the exact impact of the storm yet, please consider the possibility of power outages that may last over 24 hours. Saturday would be a great day to stock up on non-perishable food items.

Please keep in mind that the Town Hall will be closed on Monday, October 13, for Columbus Day.
On October 6, approximately 100 people turned up at a special town meeting to discuss two items regarding funding for excess legal expenses for fiscal year 2024-25, and supplemental funding for a new cooling tower for the Easton public library. Both were passed by the town meeting. In discussing future steps, most of the legal expenses involved land use issues. Planning and Zoning is working on an ordinance to strengthen our enforcement efforts without having to utilize costly litigation. The Board of Selectmen have entered into an agreement with our long-time counsel at Berchem, Moses to have town attorneys on retainer. It is the town’s hope that having an attorney on retainer will reduce costs directly, but also make our attorneys more available to consult with town staff in the hope that this prevents future litigation. Work on the cooling tower will begin in the spring.

The following is the town's policy on political signs as it stands today. After Labor Day, political signs on roadside Town land will not be disturbed as long as they are not excessive in size or number. In addition, political signs connected to a town-wide voting event will not be disturbed two weeks before the event. Signs should be taken down immediately after the election or event. Please follow the policy.

If you haven’t seen it, the Easton Courier ran a wonderful article, “Connecticut Formalizes Fairfield County’s Support for Worn-Torn Ukrainian Region,” recognizing the generosity of towns across Connecticut, including Easton’s meaningful contributions.

As mentioned last week, you can now submit service requests online! You can find the link for this on our town website by selecting the “About Easton” tab, then “Request Town Services”, then the underlined “Request Town Services”, then “Service Request”, then “Start”. From here, you will be able to complete and submit a request form to report town issues such as potholes, general safety, etc. For emergencies, please do not use the online service—call 9-1-1 immediately.

Absentee Ballots for the November 4, 2025, Municipal Election are available at the Town Clerk's Office. For more information, please click HERE.

The governor has announced a Stage 2 Drought Advisory for Fairfield County.

A Stage 2 drought advisory is an awareness stage, identifying an emerging drought event that could potentially impact water supplies, agriculture, and natural ecosystems. It is the second of five levels under the Connecticut Drought Preparedness and Response Plan, with Stage 1 being the lowest and Stage 5 the most extreme. We are encouraged to voluntarily minimize future drought impact by shutting down automatic outdoor irrigation, minimizing overall water use by fixing leaky plumbing and fixtures, and reducing car washing. Thank you in advance for helping to preserve one of our most valuable resources.

Due to the drought, residents are reminded that there is no open burning permitted. The use of any fire pits, campfires, or any open-flame device can create a fire hazard.

On Tuesday at the Board of Finance meeting, we honored Andy Kachele, who is stepping down after 37 years on the Board of Finance. This represents an extraordinary level of dedication to our town. We will miss Andy’s knowledge and wisdom, and we thank him for his service.
