[UPDATE] Redding, Region 9 Schools Closed Until Monday

The following is a press release sent by Joel Barlow High School staff.

Update 12:15 p.m.

Dr. Bernard Josefsberg, superintendent of schools, announced Tuesday that Redding and Region 9 schools would be closed until Monday, Nov. 7.

"I met with Redding town officials this morning to take stock of power and road conditions and learned that there is little likelihood of returning the community to normal conditions before the end of the week," Josefsberg wrote in a press release. "Based on that projection — and because certainty about this week’s school calendar may help residents make contingency arrangements — I have decided that the Redding and Region 9 schools will remain closed through to the end of this week. Schools will re-open for students on Monday, November 7."

Josefsberg said that "combined with and the likely impact of winter weather, the loss of additional days this week jeopardizes the spring recess week of April 16 – 20."

"For the moment, the difficulties of the school calendar must be put aside in favor of returning to normal conditions as soon as possible," he said. "Until that occurs, Joel Barlow High School will remain open as a public shelter for those in need of overnight warmth and hot showers."
