Redding Police Investigate DUI, Domestic Dispute, And Parked Car Theft

Redding police responded to a DUI crash, a domestic dispute, a mental health crisis, and a theft from a parked car at Topstone Park.

REDDING, CT — A Redding man was charged with driving under the influence following a single-vehicle crash on Hill Road (Route 107) on June 1, police said. Officers responded to a report of a car striking metal guardrails, with no injuries reported. Gerald Valenti, 55, of Lonetown Road, was found to be operating the vehicle and cited for operating under the influence and making an improper turn. He was released on $35 cash bond and scheduled to appear in Danbury court on June 2. In Connecticut, the legal blood alcohol content limit for driving is 0.08 percent for those 21 and older.

On May 26, police and EMS responded to a home on Great Oak Lane after receiving information about online comments made by a person expressing intent to self-harm. The individual agreed to be transported to a hospital emergency room for evaluation.

A domestic dispute between a husband and wife on Dry River Court on May 21 led to both parties being issued misdemeanor summonses, according to a police report.

On May 29, a woman reported a theft from her locked vehicle while it was parked at Topstone Park. She told police that after returning from walking her dogs, she discovered the rear passenger side window had been broken and her purse — containing cash and several credit cards — had been taken from the back seat. The incident is under investigation.
