Redding Police Investigate Identity Theft, Crash, And Property Damage
Redding police respond to fraud, hit-and-run, theft, and trespassing reports across town; several investigations remain open.

REDDING, CT — Redding police responded to a series of incidents between April 15 and April 20, including fraud, hit-and-run crashes, and property theft.
On April 16, a resident of Lamppost Drive reported that an unknown person used his identity to file for unemployment benefits. That same day, another resident on Topstone Road reported a wire fraud scheme in which a hacker accessed their email and impersonated a paving company, requesting payment for services not rendered. Both cases remain under investigation.
A hit-and-run crash was reported on April 18 along Stepney Road. Police said one vehicle was rear-ended by another, which then pulled around and left the scene. Officers located the teen driver on Cross Highway and issued a misdemeanor summons for evading responsibility and following too closely. No injuries were reported.

On April 19, a Diamond Hill Road resident reported that a vehicle had struck her stone wall and left the scene. Pieces of the vehicle were recovered at the site, and the case remains under investigation.
Also on April 16, a complaint was filed from Redding Road (Route 53), where a bench and chair were reported stolen from a driveway during the workday. Police are continuing to investigate.

In a separate matter, on April 15 a resident of Gallows Hill Road Extension reported repeated trespassing by an unidentified teenage male who had been knocking on their door over the course of a month. Surveillance footage captured the incidents, and the case remains open.
Finally, on April 19, officers responded to a noise complaint involving loud music on Simpaug Turnpike. The music was located and turned down without further incident.
