REDDING, CT — A luxury convertible, left unlocked and idling, was the prize claimed by a thief in the right place at the right time on Saturday.

The Redding Police Department is investigating the theft of a 2022 Mercedes-Benz AMG from outside a residence at Redding Road/Route 107, near Dayton Road, on Dec. 7.

According to a report from Chief Mark O'Donnell, the motorist had been out shopping with her daughter:

"She then dropped her off at the residence, went inside for 5 minutes to say goodbye, came back out and someone had entered her running vehicle and drove off with it."

The investigation into the theft of the white 2-door convertible remains open.
