School Briefs: May 7

Weston, Redding and Easton students earn accolades at schools nationwide.

Jason P. Ottomano, a member of the Class of 2014 at Colby College, was named to the dean's list for his outstanding academic achievement during the fall semester of the 2011-12 year. Ottomano is the son of Peter and Kristine Ottomano of Weston and attended Fairfield College Preparatory. In order to be named, students must have a grade point average of at least 3.61.

Gina Vitale of Easton has been named to the dean's list for the Fall 2011 semester at Salve Regina University. Vitale is a sophomore majoring in business administration. In order to be named, students must earn grade point averages of at least 3.6.

Cormac Cumminskey, a junior at , has received a gold medal in The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2012. Cumminskey has been identified by a panel of professional writers as one of the most talented young artists in the nation. This year, 200,000 works of art and writing were submitted. Only the top 1,500 were recognized at the national level. These students have been invited to attend a ceremony at Carnegie Hall on June 1 and to participate in showcase events at Parsons, The New School for Design in New York City.

The following local students have been named members of Marist College's men's lacrosse team for the spring 2012 season:

  • Patrick Eaker, of Redding, is a graduate of Brewster Academy.
  • Morgan Faller, of Weston, is a graduate of Weston High School.

Victoria LaTronica, a member of the Class of 2013 who is from Redding, was one of approximately 300 Eastern Connecticut State University students receiving ECSU Foundation Competitive Scholarships for the 2012-13 academic year. The total amount of scholarship funds awarded by the ECSU Foundation totaled a record $450,000. A social work major, LaTronica was awarded the The Konover Endowed Scholarship.
