We have reconfigured parking next to the Police Department entrance for safety reasons. We will now be parking all police vehicles on the Morehouse Road side of town hall. A few open spaces will remain. This will open up more spaces in the library parking lot, so please park there.

Congratulations to Alice Vasil, who turned one hundred on August 21st of this year!

This week, we convened a task force to study our participation in the Aspetuck Health District. A lot of good information was shared. One thing that came out of our first discussion was a feeling that many people in town do not know what services are available. Besides working on the sanitarian issues around construction and septic systems, they offer many public health services from tick testing to travel medicine vaccines to health screenings and home visits. For more info, please go to https://aspetuckhd.org/. More to come on the findings of the task force.

This Thursday, September 11th, please join the town of Easton as we honor the victims of 9/11 and their families. We will hold two special services on September 11th at the 9/11 Memorial and in front of the library. The first will be a solemn moment of silence, beginning at 8:46 am, marking the time the first plane struck the World Trade Center. Our second service will begin at 6:00 pm, offering a time for the community to gather and share stories, ensuring we never forget. The evening service will include an opening prayer, the raising of the 9/11 flag, the Pledge of Allegiance, the National Anthem, and the sharing of memories. All are welcome to join us in reflection and remembrance.”

Congratulations to our town attorney, Ira Bloom, who was recently named the recipient of the prestigious Marvin J. Glink Private Practice Local Government Attorney Award by the International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA). This national award recognizes an exceptional private practice attorney serving municipal clients who demonstrates the traditional qualities of excellence in the practice of law, along with providing outstanding service to the public, and who possesses an exemplary reputation in the legal community, the highest of ethical standards, is devoted to mentoring young lawyers, and to educating lawyers in local government law.

Last call! The Friends of the Easton Public Library are collecting donations of gently used books, CDs, DVDs, vinyls, games, and toys for their annual book sale on September 27 and 28. On Monday, September 15th, construction will begin on the Judd Road bridge between Easton and Monroe. The work is expected to be completed by next summer. Until then, the bridge will be closed. Detours will be posted. The town of Monroe will be doing the work, but we will keep you posted.
This week, the Board of Finance was updated on the progress of the EMS building renovation. We are on budget and hope to be finished in the spring. While there have been challenges due to the condition of the building, the building committee was able to value engineer a number of things to offset this, hence being within the project’s budget.

The “Grow a Row Program” for Easton Seniors is ending on Tuesday, September 9th. Donations of homegrown produce or items purchased from Easton farms can be dropped off at Shaggy Coos Farm at 53 Center Road on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to noon, for volunteers to deliver the food to Easton’s seniors. Many thanks to all who have made this program such a success!
