Soap Star, Weston Resident Charles Keating Passes at 72

The stage actor and notorious daytime TV villain hung on just long enough to keep a promise to his wife.

British-born actor and Weston resident Charles Keating — best known for his roles on daytime soap operas “All My Children” and “Another World” — passed away in his Connecticut home Saturday at the age of 72.

During more than three decades on stage and screen, Keating earned a Daytime Emmy for his time as the villain Carl Hutchins on “Another World” and was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor in 1986 after appearing in a revival of “Loot.”

More recently, Keating played Friedrich Golchan in the 1999 film “The Thomas Crown Affair.”

The actor passed away after a 3-year battle with lung cancer, just moments after fulfilling a promise to his wife, Mary, to survive to their 50th anniversary, his son Sean told the AP.
