She also continues in her leadership positions on the Medicare and Medicaid Policy Oversight Council (as subcommittee chair), the Offshore Wind Environmental Standards Commission and with the House Progressive Caucus.

“I have no doubt that Rep. Hughes will continue to bring her enthusiasm and passion for service to this new leadership position within our caucus. She is a natural collaborator and her attention to detail will allow her to expand her role as a resource to her colleagues, constituents and the state,” Majority Leader Rojas said. “I look forward to the session ahead and to seeing her take on these new responsibilities with the same dedication she has shown since she started to serve in the legislature.”

In addition to her leadership appointments, Rep. Hughes asked House Leadership for, and received, a fourth committee assignment: Energy & Technology. The assignment reflects Rep. Hughes' profound commitment to bringing accountability and transparency to the state's energy and utility landscape, as well as her championing of the state's growing renewable energy sector.

"Rep. Hughes' request to serve on a fourth committee isn't surprising, as she is a tireless advocate for her district and the state, particularly in the energy arena," House Speaker Matt Ritter said. "Accommodating her request was an easy decision."

She is also a returning member to the Aging, Human Services, and Labor and Public Employees Committees, where she will continue to tirelessly seek the following: improved access to affordable healthcare; flexibility in how the state funds its essential services, including special education, universal school meals, a refundable and sustainable child tax credit, and raising provider and Medicaid rates to support the state's largest Medicaid member community, those in long term care and those with developmental disabilities.

“I am eager in this new era to work with my elected colleagues, our state agencies and our Governor, to deliver ratepayer and economic relief to Connecticut families," Rep. Hughes said.

Rep. Hughes also cited affordable housing and deeply affordable housing as among the top critical issues this legislative session.

"I am determined to address our spike in homelessness, especially in Fairfield County, where there’s an alarming increase in working parents with children who are living unhoused and increase in elderly neighbors bereft of housing, due to unaffordable rents and complete shortage of affordable safe housing with supports for these folks,” she said.

Rep. Hughes will also be working with other state legislators across the country “to protect hard-won consumer and small business protections put in place by the Biden administration and challenging corporate monopolies that harm consumers and inflate prices on essential goods and services.”
