The soft serve machine is up and running for the summer at Swirl Ice Cream and Treats, but some of the employees said that's not the only thing that should be drawing in customers this season.
"I think more people should come in for gifts," said Mia Dimeglio, 16, an employee at Swirl.
The shop has a wide selection of gifts, many of which are new from Melissa and Doug, Dimeglio said, pointing out sticker pads, decorate-your-own kits and scratch art kits.
She and Katherine Balitsos, 19, another Swirl employee, both said that many customers don't know that Swirl has supplies to wrap gifts such as ribbons, baskets and paper.
But Swirl, located at 19 Main St., is best known for its ice cream, the most popular flavor of which is Swamp, a combination of vanilla ice cream, oreos, crushed malted balls, chocolate chips, M&Ms and caramel, as well as its soft serve. Swirl has more than 24 soft serve flavors available.
The Longford's ice cream cakes are also big hits, both employees said. Though the store keeps several flavors on hand, people can also order customized cakes that take about a week to come in.
They said the store hasn't been too busy this summer, but that after dinner is when they typically see the biggest crowd.
