What are the best kinds of flowers to plant in your yard this time of year? We asked Irv Silverman, owner of Silverman's Farm, 451 Sport Hill Road in Easton.
"All the perennials are fine to plant," Silverman said Friday. "They usually flower until the first frost in the fall."
Silverman said the most popular plants this time of year are geraniums, impatiens, begonias, dahlias, zinnias and snap dragons.
Silverman said the most common mistakes people make when caring for their plants is either over or under watering them.
How much water a plant needs depends on the amount of rain and sun there has been and whether the soil is organic or sandy, according to Silverman.
He said plants in sandy soil need to be watered more often, as well as potted plants - especially plants kept on a deck, which tend to dry faster.
"A lot of times when people go away for three or four days and nobody is watching the plants, if it's hot and dry out, they'll lose some flowers," Silverman said.
