Two CT Train Crashes Leave One Dead, One Injured

First responders attended to two train collisions in the Nutmeg State in the past 24 hours. One led to a fatality.

REDDING, CT — Two trains in Connecticut were involved in collisions within the past 24 hours, leading to one fatality and another leading to non-life-threatening injuries. A crash in Beacon Falls led to the death of a woman when she was struck by a Waterbury Branch train Wednesday morning, and a man in Redding was injured after his car was struck by a Danbury Branch train Tuesday night.

Both victims had not been identified. In both crashes, there were around 30 people on the trains. No injuries have been reported to any train passengers.

In Beacon Falls, the Metro Transit Authority (MTA) said a woman who was trespassing was struck at around 9 a.m. Wednesday morning. Thirty five people were on the train at the time of the crash, and the MTA is investigating the crash.

Redding's train crash took place at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday night, when a Danbury bound train struck an unauthorized vehicle on the tracks. Thirty people were on board the train at the time, and the crash is still under investigation.

CORRECTION: Previous editions of this story mistakenly indicated the Redding crash occurred Monday night. The crash took place Tuesday.
