Two Men Charged With DUI in Redding

DUI arrests

A 27-year-old Redding man who lives on Main Street was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and traveling too fast for conditions following a one-car accident on Route 53. According to police, Connor Andrews was heading south on Route 53 on Wednesday, July 4 at 9:38 p.m. when he hit a telephone pole before continuing on into the woods.

He refused to take a breathalyzer test, police said, and was released on $200 bond. Andrews it to appear in court on July 19.

Frederick Yerdon, 69, of Johnson City, N.Y. was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and traveling too fast following a crash on Route 107. Yerdon allegedly failed to negotiate a curve and struck a guardrail on Saturday, July 7 at 10:07 p.m.

He was held on $200 bond and given a July 18 court date.

Warrant arrest

On Tuesday, July 3 at 10:45 p.m., Norwalk Police notified the they had a man in custody that had a warrant out for his arrest. Robert Leone, 53 of Redding was turned over to police for failing to show up in court to answer 2008 charges of a dog roaming violation. Someone was bit in that incident, police said.

Car v. bicyclist

On Saturday, July 7 at 10:35 a.m., a vehicle towing a trailer was heading south on Route 53 when it clipped the front tire of a bicycle, knocking the bicyclist to the ground. The bicyclist was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

William Mercede, 50, of Ridgefield was issued a written warning for failure to drive right at a curve.
