UPDATE: Fatal Crash in Redding on Christmas

Redding Police Chief Douglas Fuchs provided an update on the investigation into the fatal crash in Redding on Christmas.

continue to investigate a car accident that claimed the life of a Newtown wife and mother on Christmas Day, Chief Douglas Fuchs announced Tuesday.

"We're continuing our investigation," Fuchs said. "We have uncovered new information, but because [the investigation] is ongoing, we can't release it at this time."

According to police, Alexy Avetisyan, 45, of Newtown was driving a 2006 Nissan Murano on Marchant Road, near Simpaug Turnpike, around 12:40 p.m. when "the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree." Avetisyan's wife, Annemarie, 48, was taken to Danbury Hospital in "extremely serious condition after being trapped under the vehicle which had rolled over on her after she was ejected." She later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.

The couple's five-year-old male child, along with Avetisyan, were also taken to the hospital and treated with non life-threatening injuries.

Police are asking anyone who might have seen the crash — which was unrelated to the ongoing construction on Simpaug Turnpike — to contact the department with any information.
