Weston Priest Arrested for Embezzling Granted Special Probation, Will Return to Congo: Report

Father Kombo stole money left to the church by a deceased parishioner and deposited annuity proceeds into a personal account, officials said

WESTON, CT — Honore Kombo, a Seymour priest who resides in Weston, will have his criminal record dropped and return to the Congo after he completes successfully completes the two-year accelerated rehabilitation program for the alleged embezzlement of church funds, the Connecticut Post reported.

Patch reported in March that Kombo, 52, was charged with first-degree larceny and arrested in February after St. Augustine Church officials discovered that $27,000 given to the parish through bequests was missing.

Police began investigating Kombo after the Hartford Roman Catholic Diocese said that Kombo stole money left to the church by a deceased parishioner. According to police, Kombo deposited the annuity proceeds into his personal bank account in 2015.

Father Honore Kombo came from the Diocese of Kikwit in Congo to to Newton, Massachusetts church before serving in Seymour. According to Sacred Heart Church's website, Kombo studied for his Ph.D. in Hebrew Scripture at Boston University, simultaneously studying for a Masters in Non-Profit Administration at Brandeis University. For the one degree he learned eight languages, including Hebrew, Greek, Latin and Aramaic, and also also mastered budgets and finance, according to the church.
