Weston Public Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of James Wiltsie as the district’s Director of Safety & Security. A Marine Corps veteran and law enforcement officer, Wiltsie comes to Weston having most recently served as Division Commander of the Fairfield Police Department’s School Safety Division. In this role, he supervised a team of seven School Resource Officers and oversaw safety protocols for 17 public schools, serving more than 9,000 students. His comprehensive understanding of the unique needs in educational settings, and his ability to coordinate effectively with key stakeholders have ensured a unified and proactive approach to school safety.

“We are so pleased that Jim will be joining our team. His experience, qualifications, and perspective on school security and how it supports learning align well with our district goals,” Superintendent Lisa Barbiero said. “The interview committee was very impressed with his passion and dedication to ensuring the safety of students and staff.”

In addition to his professional responsibilities, Wiltsie is deeply committed to community service. He serves as Event Director of the annual Vicki Soto 5K, which honors the memory of a beloved teacher and supports educational initiatives. He also serves as a Public Safety Advisory Board Member for the Town of Stratford, providing strategic guidance to enhance community safety and well-being.

Regarding his appointment, Wiltsie said, “I am honored to bring my experience and passion for safety to Weston. I look forward to fostering collaboration amongst the staff, parents, and students to create a secure and trusted environment for learning and growth.”

Wiltsie holds a Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management and Homeland Security from Post University. He will assume his new role effective February 3, 2025.
