Weston, Redding, Easton Distracted Drivers: Police Crackdown Starts Wednesday
Whether it's Pokemon GO, texting or talking on your cell phone, police are watching, and cracking down on distracted drivers.
WESTON, EASTON, REDDING, CT — During the month of August, police departments from across the state are participating in the “U DRIVE. U TEXT. U PAY.” initiative in an effort to crackdown on motorists who choose to text, talk or otherwise distract themselves from driving by using a hand-held mobile phone.
Police Departments will have extra patrols on certain days specifically looking for cell phone and texting violations. Under Connecticut’s cell phone and texting law fines range from $150 for a first offense, $300 for a second offense and $500 for each subsequent offense.
The Weston, Redding and Easton Police Departments, through the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Office, received funds to pay for this enforcement initiative.
