Weston Woman Showers as Burglars Break In

A neighbor's description of the getaway car leads to the arrest of three suspects.

A woman was showering in her Godfrey Road East home late in the morning on June 17, when burglars broke a window to a door in back of her house and got inside, according to the police report.

A large amount of jewelry, an Apple MacBook Pro and an Apple iPad were taken before the burglars left through a side door by the garage, police said.

They would have made a clean getaway, but a neighbor saw their black Volvo pulling out of the driveway and called the homeowner because it looked out of place, according to the report.

The homeowner immediately called police, who sent officers to her home and a description of the vehicle over the radio. Wilton police officers stopped the car on Route 7 in Norwalk, just south of the Wilton town line, police said.

Norwalk officers assisted at the scene and three suspects were turned over to the Weston Police Department. Weston officers found items stolen from the house in the Volvo, as well as burglary tools in the glove compartment and trunk, the report said.

Weston Police Chief John Troxell praised the neighbor and homeowner for calling police right away.

"Without the observations of the neighbor and the description of the vehicle, there's a good chance the three suspects would have gotten away," he said Tuesday. "The information was key in the apprehension and subsequent arrests of these individuals. And we are grateful. The public is our eyes and ears. If you see something, say something. Because of that, Weston is a safer place now."

Police arrested Derek Forsythe, 25, of Georgetown Road in Weston; Joseph Pagini, 24, of Bunker Avenue in Meriden; and Thomas Lyden, 25, of Riverview Drive in Guilford.

All three were charged with first-degree larceny, second-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief, possession of burglary tools, three counts of criminal attempt to commit burglary, and conspiracy.

Forsythe was held on $50,000 bond and Pagini and Lyden were both held on $25,000 bond for a June 18 court date.
