5 Accused Of Trying To Pass Counterfeit Bills In Westport: Police
The incidents occurred at numerous stores on Monday afternoon, according to authorities.
WESTPORT, CT — Five New Yorkers were arrested on forgery and related charges on Monday, after Westport police said they tried to pass counterfeit bills at multiple stores in town.
Westport police began receiving numerous calls at about 4:30 p.m. from local businesses about several people trying to pass fake money.
"The complainants provided a good description of the suspects and their vehicle," said Capt. Eric Woods in a statement.

One of the suspects was apprehended in the Choice Pet store on the Post Road East, and additional suspects were found in the described vehicle nearby.
"Through their investigation, officers learned the team had been to various retail stores in Westport and allegedly passed numerous counterfeit bills," Woods said.

The following individuals were arrested:
Jaquane Murray, 31, of New York, NY, on charges of:
- (4 counts) Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 1st
- (11 counts) Forgery 1st
- (1 count) Risk of Injury to a Minor
Murray was released after posting bond on bail of $30,000, and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Aug. 15.
Akeelah Garrett, 18, of Bronx, NY, on charges of:
- (3 counts) Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 1st
- (1 count) Forgery 1st
Garrett was unable to post bond on her $20,000 bail, and was transported to Stamford Superior Court. She was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
Rosbert Cabrera, 18, of Bronx, NY, on charges of:
- (2 counts) Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 1st
- (1 count) Forgery 1st
Cabrera was released after posting bond on bail of $20,000, and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 15.
A 15-year-old male juvenile, of Bronx, NY, on charges of:
- (2 counts) Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 1st
- (4 counts) Forgery 1st
He was issued a juvenile summons and released to his guardian
A 17-year-old male juvenile, of New York, NY, on charges of:
- (2 counts) Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 1st
- (2 counts) Forgery 1st
He was issued a juvenile summons and released to his guardian.
