Forecast: Cold, Maybe Snow Returns to Westport This Week

Erin go Brrrrrrrrr! Temperatures plummet today and the cold weather continues into Friday, when there's a possibility of a wintry mix.

There are so many problems with the latest forecast for the area. It appears winter is having issues letting go.

With the first day of spring on Saturday, we’re looking at the chance of snow squalls or showers early Wednesday, cold temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday, and yes, fittingly enough, the chance of accumulating snow or mixed precipitation on the last day of winter on Friday continuing into Saturday morning.

You’d better enjoy today as it’s the last time you’ll see 50 degrees for awhile, and after we hit the 50 mark this afternoon, temperatures will plummet quickly all the way into the mid 20s.

Temperatures will remain cold Wednesday and Thursday, possibly setting the stage for more snow and mixed precipitation on Friday, just in time for the evening commute home from work, writes WTNH News 8 meteorologist Gil Simmons.

And to make matters even worse, more wintry weather is possible through the first week of April, writes NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Brad Field.

Field writes “our computer modeling continues to show winter weather threats into the first week of April...THIS would be what we call “weather porn”...long, long way out...but point is...lots of threats still exist…”

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan writes on social media, “Snow is becoming increasingly likely for Friday. While most models show accumulating snow, a slight jog north would result in more rain as high pressure to the north is in a bad position for snow (sliding offshore, rather than anchored to our north). Bottom line - keep an eye on this one!”

News 12 writes on social media, “WEATHER UPDATE: St. Patrick’s Day, a.m. rain followed by gradual clearing and gusty winds. High of 50. Temperatures will drop sharply in the evening with gusts to 35 mph. Low of 26 Tuesday night. There will be a chance of a wintry mix or snow for the first day of Spring.”
