Amazon Fresh Takes Step Toward Opening In Westport: Report

WESTPORT, CT — It's looking more and more likely that Amazon Fresh is coming to Westport.

An application has been submitted to install a sign depicting the Amazon Fresh logo at 1076 Post Road East — the store's proposed location, Westport News reported.

Though Christopher McLean, an engineer involved with conducting a traffic study, said the applicant is planning to open a store in 2022, he didn't confirm whether Amazon is said applicant, according to the newspaper.

But former selectwoman Jennifer Tooker once said the business opening there would be a grocery store, though it "may not really be a traditional supermarket," Wesport News reported.

That characterization aligns with Amazon's description of Amazon Fresh — the company's website refers to the chain as "a new grocery store designed from the ground up to offer a seamless grocery shopping experience."

"We've also introduced new ways to make grocery shopping more convenient, including the Amazon Dash Cart, which enables customers to skip the checkout line, and new Alexa features to help customers manage their shopping lists and better navigate our aisles," the website reads."
