"Chanukah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, commemorates the triumph of the Maccabees over the Greek-Syrian empire and the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem," officials said. "Central to the holiday is the miracle of the oil, which burned for eight days despite being enough for only one—an enduring symbol of faith, resilience, and hope.

"Today, the Menorah continues to shine as a universal emblem of freedom, reminding us of the ongoing pursuit of religious liberty and tolerance in a world too often touched by conflict and division.

"For eight nights, one additional candle is lit, spreading increasing light and goodness throughout our homes, our communities, and our world."
