WESTPORT, CT — A 40-year-old New Rochelle, New York woman was arrested last week by Westport police on a warrant charging her with larceny in connection with an alleged bank fraud case, according to authorities.

Adele Wauchope turned herself in at police headquarters on May 22, and was charged with third-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit first-degree forgery.

Police began investigating the case in March, after the department was contacted by a fraud investigator at Webster Bank.

"The complainant reported that various Webster Banks have been scammed out of approximately $3,000.00 since the end of January 2025," said Westport Police Capt. Eric Woods in a statement. "The complainant reported that a person deposited various US Postal Money Orders that were forged from their original issue amounts into an account that was opened and owned by Adele Wauchope."

Westport police used search warrants, information sharing with other departments and surveillance footage to identify Wauchope as the suspect, which led to her arrest.

Wauchope was initially held in lieu of bail of $50,000, but that amount was reduced during arraignment at Stamford Superior Court, and she was released.
