Bayberry Lane Bridge to Close for Emergency Repairs
The bridge over the Aspetuck River will close for two to four weeks beginning July 10.

Westport Public Works Director Steve Edwards announced Monday emergency repairs to the Bayberry Lane Bridge over the Aspetuck River will close the bridge for two to four weeks beginning Wednesday, July 10, according to a release.
A recent routine state inspection led to the discovery of significant structural deficiencies due to scour from recent storm events, Edwards said. Scour is sediment such as sand and rocks that swiftly moving water removes from the base of bridge abutments, eventually compromising the integrity of a structure.
An underwater inspection of the bridge confirmed that repairs needed to be made as soon as possible, according to Edwards.

“The bridge is not unsafe to cross, but we want to get the work done as soon as possible before schools resume in the fall,” he said.
The closure will be especially inconvenient for area residents since there is already a closure nearby on the North Avenue Bridge over the Aspetuck River, where work is under way on a six-month deck replacement.

Bayberry Lane Extension -- where the bridge is located -- is a cut-through from Easton Road in Westport to Lyons Plains Road in Weston.
Drivers will be routed via Coleytown Road, westward to the intersection of Coleytown Road and Lyons Plains Road to get around the closure, Edwards said.
