WESTPORT, CT — Craving a big, delicious breakfast? A new restaurant in downtown Westport has just what you are looking for.

The Original Pancake House, a Washington-based chain, recently opened its first Connecticut location on Main Street in Westport, serving up breakfasts from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., seven days a week.

"Westport seems like a really good community for us," East Coast Regional Director Angela Marple told Patch about why the chain chose the town for its first Connecticut spot. "It's beautiful along the water, and the people are great. Also, this location has wonderful foot traffic and parking."

The two-floor restaurant obviously specializes in pancakes, based on its name, but also serves waffles, crepes, French toast, omelettes, benedicts and other egg dishes (with or without meats). Batters are made from scratch, and for pancakes and waffles, there are also a selection of homemade syrups.

Two of the most popular dishes, Marple said, are the Apple Pancake ("Homemade German batter oven baked with sliced Granny Smith apples, clarified butter, cinnamon, and sugar.") and the Dutch Baby (Homemade German batter oven baked until light, airy and golden brown. Served with whipped butter, powdered sugar, and lemon.")

With the Westport location, The Original Pancake House has 11 sites, nine in Washington, and two on the East Coast in Westport and White Plains, New York. The chain is also still hiring for the Westport and White Plains locations, in addition to its restaurants in Washington.

Marple moved from Washington and settled in Brookfield to help launch the two East Coast restaurants, and she said the plan is to add more locations in either Westchester County or Fairfield County.

Feedback from customers has been positive, she said, with generally no wait times for a table during the week. Weekends are busier, but customers can join a waitlist online to get a table more quickly.

Additionally, customers who eat downstairs order through a QR code at one of the four tables or counter, and food is brought to them. Patrons at one of the 27 tables upstairs receive service from the wait staff.

"Everyone has been very gracious and kind," Marple said, adding that it has taken a couple of weeks to work out little kinks in the service at the new restaurant. "I hear from a lot of customers that Westport really needed a place like this, which we really appreciate."
