Students at Christ & Holy Trinity Preschool have spent the last two months learning how to contribute to the community for a school-wide project called "Our Neighbors."
"Our Neighbors" included raising money to donate two new couches to the children's section at Westport Library.
The kids presented the funds -- which they raised via a Mother's Day flower sale, household chores, tag sales, and lemonade stands -- to Library Director Maxine Bleiweis Thursday.
"We hope it has fostered a deeper appreciation for their community and instilled a lifelong spirit of giving back," the school stated in the release.
Besides contributing to the library, the students learned about all the people who make up a community -- from postal workers and mechanics, to police officers and librarians. The students also picked up trash at the beach, made paper kites for the elderly citizens, and brought cookies to Westport firefighters.
They learned that "no matter how tall or small, we can all make a positive difference," according to the school.
