Westport Planning & Zoning Alternate (2024-present)
Why are you seeking this office?
I’m running for the Planning & Zoning Commission because I love Westport and care deeply about its future. Our town is at a turning point, and the decisions we make over the next four years will shape how we grow, how we manage traffic and flooding, and how we preserve the character that makes Westport such a great place to live.
After serving as an alternate on the Commission for the past year and a half, I’ve seen firsthand how thoughtful, community-driven planning can make a real difference. I want to continue that work—listening to residents, asking tough questions, and making decisions that balance progress with preservation. My goal is simple: to plan smart and protect what we love—our schools, neighborhoods, natural resources, and vibrant downtown.
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it:
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is balancing growth with preserving Westport’s character and quality of life. This is what I intend to do about it: I’ll continue to promote thoughtful, community-driven planning that manages traffic, protects our neighborhoods, and keeps housing solutions within our control—not dictated by outside developers or state mandates. That means supporting creative solutions to expand affordable options and ensuring that every new development fits Westport’s scale, infrastructure, and values.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
I’m aligned on nearly all issues with my fellow Democratic candidates running for the P&Z this year. We share a commitment to responsible growth, transparency, and community engagement in every decision. Where I differ from our Republican opponent is in approach and priorities.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
In addition to proactive planning for affordable housing, I care deeply about keeping Westport safe, livable, and true to its character. I want to make it easier to get around town—whether walking, biking, or driving—while protecting the natural resources that make Westport such a beautiful place to live. I’m also passionate about keeping our downtown vibrant and welcoming, supporting local businesses, improving parking and public spaces, and preparing for the impacts of flooding and climate change. Together with my fellow Democrats, I believe in open, thoughtful, and community-driven decision-making that will keep Westport thriving for years to come.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
I’ve spent my career as an attorney focused on transportation and government ethics, helping cities and agencies make fair, transparent, and well-reasoned policy decisions. That experience has given me a deep appreciation for public process, accountability, and the need to balance community interests in complex regulatory matters.
As an alternate on Westport’s Planning & Zoning Commission for the past year and a half, I’ve worked on issues ranging from affordable housing and adaptive reuse to athletic field lighting. I take pride in being prepared, staying calm under pressure, and making decisions based on facts, not emotion. I listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, and strive to keep every discussion respectful and productive. Those skills—along with my love for this town—prepare me to continue serving Westport effectively.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
Listen more than you speak, and make sure to eat before a long meeting. Both have proven invaluable. The first keeps me grounded and open to new perspectives; the second keeps me patient through six-hour P&Z hearings.
