Deer Stuck In Frozen Saugatuck River Rescued By Westport Firefighters

Westport firefighters rescued a deer that had fallen into the frozen Saugatuck River Thursday morning.

WESTPORT, CT — A deer that had fallen into the frozen Saugatuck River Thursday morning was rescued by Westport firefighters, according to officials.

Firefighters were called to the downtown Westport area, near the Westport Library, at about 6:45 a.m., and utilizing an inflatable canoe and cold water rescue suits, they were able to pull the deer to shore.

Whether the deer thanked the firefighters following the successful rescue is unknown, but it was able to walk away into a nearby wooded area.
