The Westport Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.

WESTPORT, CT — An early morning fire at a home on Hillspoint Road in Westport was extinguished by firefighters, according to Westport Assistant Fire Chief Brett Kirby.

No injuries were reported in the 5:30 a.m. blaze, which was discovered by two passersby, who saw the fire on the side of the home.

"The passersby were able to notify the home’s occupants of the fire, and the house was evacuated before fire department units arrived," Kirby said in a statement.

Westport firefighters were on the scene within minutes of being notified, and they attacked it with a handline and doused it quickly, according to Kirby. The inside of the home was checked, but firefighters determined that the blaze had been confined to the exterior.

"Due to the early notification to occupants by the passersby, prompt notification to the fire department via 911, and a swift response from on-duty firefighters, this fire was kept to the exterior of the house and stopped from entering the home," Kirby said.
