Getting 'Puzzled' at Westport Library

On Monday afternoon, Bridgeport resident Bob B. is sitting quietly at Westport Library, not unlike other patrons that are there to read or study. But instead of a large stack of books, there are 1,000 puzzle pieces scattered in front of him. When completed, the puzzle will display a springtime scene with delicate pink flowers.

For the past two years, the 72 year-old puzzle enthusiast has been frequenting Westport Library as well as a few in Fairfield to take part in a hobby he has enjoyed since he was a child. While he was working alone at 3 pm, he told Patch that other enthusiasts in the area would be flocking to his table to help at around 5 p.m.

"When a few people show up, it's a nice time to chat, laugh and have a little dialogue," he said.

The puzzle, which the library provides and looks about 15 percent complete, will remain on the table until the mission has been accomplished, which means that the pieces may be vulnerable to practical jokers. When asked if the community puzzle has ever come up short due to sticky fingers, Bob B. laughed and said not recently, but when it has happened it made him "want to use four-letter words."

Want to lend a hand to Bob B. and the others? Don't be shy, all are welcome!
