Letter: Avi Kaner is a “Doer”

I have known Avi Kaner for about fifteen years.  Our daughters and wives are close friends, and I have seen his passion and interest in both politics and in our community of Westport from day one.

Perhaps the greatest answer to “Who Avi Kaner really is?” can be answered in a quick and perhaps untold story that I will never forget.  We were at dinner with Avi and his wife Liz shortly after 9/11.  Avi received a phone call from the NYPD that they needed his help in the on-going rescue and recovery efforts at Ground Zero.  They needed a vast supply of food to feed thousands, supporting rescue and recovery efforts on scene. I remember Avi saying without hesitation, “yes of course, and what else can I do?” as, we all left shortly thereafter.  

When I next ran into Avi in town, he told me how he personally drove down to lower Manhattan in a police motorcade to deliver the meals including the chaos and obstacles in reaching the area.  What I later on learned through other people is that his ongoing supply was one of the main distributions for first responders during the crisis. It does not matter whether you are conservative or liberal.  It only matters that you vote the best choice to help our town.
