Letter: Kaner Brings Real Business Skills

Letter submitted in support of selectmen candidates.

Editor,

It's about time we had leaders in Town Hall who are professionals with real business backgrounds.  Avi Kaner who is running for 2nd Selectman along with his running mate First Selectman candidate Jim Marpe both bring decades of business training and experience to our Town.

Avi who I have known for many years has a BA and an MBA from Columbia. Avi in his career has worked as a management consultant helping solve complex client problems with world class firms such as Deloitte and Booze Allen Hamilton.

Today, Avi is a co-owner of a business in one of the most competitive industries, (supermarkets) operating in one of the toughest retail environments (NYC). Avi's company operates 12 stores, has over 700 employees and does over a $100 million in sales.  Avi has tremendous experience dealing with unions, controlling costs, negotiating leases, providing quality products and maintaining superior customer service.  This experience will serve Westport well.

We all know the outstanding job Avi has done as Chair of the Board of Finance.  Many of the Town's immediate fiscal problems have been fixed and we are on the right path for dealing with the longer term issues thanks to Avi's leadership.

Avi along with Jim Marpe (MBA Wharton) will bring the management and business skills to the running of our Town government that is needed. Voting for Jim Marpe and Avi Kaner on Nov 5 will guarantee a well run town managed by a professional business team.

Signed,
