More Than 1/4 Of Westport Still Without Power Week After Storm
A week after Tropical Storm Isaias, the town finally provided a place for residents without power to shower.

WESTPORT, CT — A week after Tropical Storm Isaias, just over 28 percent of Westport was still without power as of 11:30 a.m. on Monday, as tree and wire clean up and repairs continued throughout town.
According to Eversource, more than 3,500 of the utility company's customers in Westport were without power, though traffic lights and businesses on large swaths of the Post Road once again were operational.
Westport was among the hardest-hit communities in Connecticut during last Tuesday's storm, and it was the site of one of the tornadoes to touch down in the region.

The twister ripped the roof of a Saugatuck home, and left a path of destruction that knocked out power to more than 97 percent of the town for a couple of days.
Nearly 300 roads in Westport were closed at various points during and after the storm, and the number of damaged streets overwhelmed Eversource and town efforts to clean up debris and restore power.

At Longshore Club Park, the town's popular municipal golf course, tennis complex and pool, the store tore down trees and did serious damage to the facility.
"Longshore Club Park has suffered extensive damage at the hands of Tropical Storm Isaias," officials wrote on the golf course's website. "The golf course is currently closed for cleanup. Once a re-opening date has been established, it will be posted here and on our course conditions page."
On Monday until 2 p.m., the town was allowing residents without power to shower at Staples High School, a move that other communities, such as Fairfield and New Canaan, had provided for its residents at the end of last week.
Concerns over the lingering coronavirus led to Westport's delay in providing showers, but other towns still were able to get such efforts up and running days before Westport.
"Thank you for your continued cooperation and patience as we all work together to manage this significant emergency," Westport officials wrote in a statement Sunday. "Your comments and concerns have been recognized. Town departments are working around the clock to address the issues associated with restoration of services to homes, facilities and businesses in Westport."
