MTA Suspends Train Service After 11 PM, Adds Extra Afternoon Trains

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is suspending train service after 11 p.m. Monday, although it has added afternoon trains to help people leaving work early to arrive home.

“The MTA is committed to the safety of its customers and its employees, and will review storm conditions carefully as it makes any changes to service,” the MTA said in an announcement. ”Customers are urged to stay home if possible.”

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced schedule details for 26 extra trains that are being added to LIRR and Metro-North schedules this afternoon.

The trains are departing from Penn Station and Grand Central Terminal, and are intended to help those commuters who want to leave work early ahead of the forecast major winter storm.

In addition, 14 Metro-North trains that would normally depart Grand Central after 5 p.m. will be canceled or combined with other trains as noted below. Both railroads expect to suspend service as of 11 p.m. today, subject to further evaluation of the severity of the storm.

• 12:58 p.m., stopping at Harlem-125th Street, Westport, then Fairfield through New Haven.
• 2:01 p.m., stopping at Harlem-125th Street, Westport, then Fairfield through New Haven.
• 2:28 p.m., stopping at Harlem-125th Street, Westport, then Fairfield through New Haven.
• 2:31 p.m., stopping at Harlem-125th Street, then New Rochelle through Harrison.
• 2:56 p.m., stopping at Harlem-125th Street, Stamford, then Noroton Heights through South Norwalk.
• 2:59 p.m., stopping at Harlem-125th Street, then New Rochelle through Harrison.

• The 5:57 p.m. outbound train is canceled, and will be combined with the 6:02p.m. train, which will stop at Mount Vernon East through Harrison.
• The 6:07 p.m. outbound train is canceled, and will be combined with the 6:11p.m. train, which will stop at Harlem-125th Street, Stamford, then South Norwalk through New Haven.
• The 6:42 p.m. train, stopping at New Rochelle through Harrison, is canceled.
• The 6:49 p.m. train, stopping at Harlem-125th Street, South Norwalk, Westport, then Fairfield through New Haven, is canceled.
• The 7:09 p.m. train, stopping at Larchmont through Harrison, is canceled.
